Global Tel Link is a leading provider of inmate telephone, communications and payment systems.
GTL’s AdvancePay program helps inmates to complete calls that would usually be blocked. Friends and family members can create an AdvancePay prepaid account to pay for calls conveniently. AdvancePay accepts payments via credit card, money order, check or Western Union.
Free Chat Feature
AdvancePay offers a Free Chat service once only for each called party. First they will hear the standard greeting by the automated operator, including the name of the inmate and correctional facility and a notification that the call may be monitored or recorded. The called party is then informed that collect calls are blocked on that particular number and they are provided with an explanation on the Free Chat and AdvancePay options. They can then choose whether or not to accept the call. Once accepted, GTL connects the inmate so they can have a brief Free Chat. An operator will then end the chat to assist the called party in setting up an AdvancePay account. Once the account is set up, they can be reconnected to the inmate. If they choose not to set up the account, the inmate will be disconnected.
In the event that your telephone number does not allow collect call billing, AdvancePay offers another option. You can set up a prepaid account with payments of $25 or $50 with your Visa or Mastercard over the phone. The cost of every subsequent call is then deducted from the prepaid balance. One the balance has been reduced so that there aren’t enough funds to cover the cost of a one-minute call, the system will remind you to top up your prepaid balance. Call costs are deducted from the balance as soon as calls are completed.
To close your account, make a request to GTL within 90 days of the last call made. A $5 administration fee is charged for account closures, while the remaining balance is refunded. Any accounts that remain unused beyond the 90-day limit will be automatically dissolved.
Inmate Prepay Options
Inmates can also purchase prepaid calling vouchers for GTL through their commissary at the correction facility. This allows the inmates to dial directly and be in control of all their calls while increasing revenue for the correctional institution.
How do “Keep in Touch” vouchers work?
Inmates can purchase GTL “Keep in Touch” vouchers from the commissary at participating correctional institutions. Inmates must take the voucher to a phone in the correctional facility, choose their desired language, enter the number they wish to dial and select option 5 from the menu to cash the voucher. The inmate must then enter a PIN, the voucher number and value. Once validated, the voucher is no longer needed as the inmate can access the prepaid amount just by using his PIN. Family and friends can assist the inmate in purchasing vouchers by transferring money to their commissary account. Inmates departing the correctional institution can request a refund of their remaining balance or simply deactivate their account temporarily in the event that the inmate in re-incarcerated.
All prepaid calls operated through GTL’s platform are still secure as they are subjected to the same controls as other collect calls. Each call with fall under the same restrictions for call duration, time of day, blocked calls, etc, as outlined by each correctional facility.
When an inmate is released from prison, they need to have their commissary make a written request on their behalf in order to obtain a refund. It must include the inmate’s name, PIN, mailing address and name of the correctional facility in which they were incarcerated.
